Step 2: Initial Setup

- Choose your language, region, and keyboard layout preferences.
Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the available options.
- In DE Offices: Connect to DE-Internal using your SSO email and password. More information can be found here.
- The laptop will check for updates, which could take several minutes. Your device may also reboot during this step.
Step 4: Microsoft Account
- Sign in with your Discovery Education Microsoft account.
- New Users: Your Microsoft account email and temporary password should have been sent to your personal email before your first day. If you have not changed your temporary password or set up Microsoft Authenticator, you will be prompted to do so.
Step 5: Configuration
- Your laptop will automatically start creating your account, configuring settings, and applying security policies. This process can take several minutes.
- Your laptop will next open a blue Windows login screen. Use your SSO credentials to sign back in when prompted. It will then prompt for authentication with Microsoft Authenticator.
- Your laptop will continue building your profile for another few minutes.
- Important: During this process, you may see an error appear during the Account Setup stage of this device setup. If you do see this message, it is crucial that you just select Continue Anyway. Selecting this option will allow your device to proceed with the setup process.
- Once the configuration has been completed, you will be prompted to set up Windows Hello and/or create a PIN.
Step 6: Windows Updates
- Your laptop will need to download the latest drivers and updates for your device. Click the Start Button, type Check for Updates, and hit Enter.
- Windows Update Settings will open, click on Check Now and let the laptop download and install any that are available. You will most likely need to reboot the device once it finishes.
Step 7: Install Additional Apps
- Essential apps are installed automatically, for example, Zoom, Slack, and Microsoft Office. If you wish to install more applications, open the Company Portal app on your laptop to see what is available or visit our approved apps page on OneDE. Please only install applications you need.
Step 8: Data Transfer (If Applicable)
- If you're migrating from an older laptop, please back up all your data into OneDrive so it is available on your new laptop. For your browser data, please also ensure you are signed in and syncing to your Discovery Education account in Microsoft Edge.
